Protection of the intersection of 110 and 400 kV overhead power lines

Recently, at the construction site of the 400 kV overhead power line Ostrołęka - Stanisławów, we used a rare and interesting solution. It involved specialized protection of intersecting high-voltage overhead lines. This approach is not often used, and its essence is to build a unique scaffolding over a crossed 110 kV power line.

The protection was intended to maintain the safety of the 110 kV overhead live line during the assembly works of the new 400 kV line. We decided to use scaffolding with a stretched mesh, which effectively protected the existing, 110 kV live line. The scaffolding is modular, composed of many parts, which allows it to be used multiple times. Solidly attached to the ground with ropes, it not only provided protection for our employees, but also protection for the entire structure.

Our work focused on tensioning work and lightning conductors in the guy section, where the intersection of both power lines was a potential risk. The scaffolding was a key element of securing the works, enabling #EltelNetworksTeam to install a new 400 kV line without disturbing the operation of the 110 kV live line.

The use of safety scaffolding is a good example of innovation in the construction of power lines, where the safety of employees and the workplace plays a key role. Thanks to such solutions, we can efficiently develop the country's energy infrastructure, minimizing risk and increasing the efficiency of our work.
